Looks like Helvetica is generating some buzz. Yay! Our first graphic design trend!
The 100 Best Fonts as voted by Roger Black, Stephen Coles, Jan Middendorp, Veronika Elsner, Ralf Herrman, Bertram Schmidt-Friderichs and Claudia Guminski. I’d be interested to read more about the thought behind the selections. Does “best” mean some objective measurement of quality or is it more about it’s cultural significance? How does Clarendon only come out as 87th? It’d be really nice if they’d release an English version of the document.
This spring’s AIGA NY Small Talk series has a star studded line-up. Don’t miss out on the season tickets.
So I noticed the other day, while transferring a photo off of my phone, that every photo I’d taken with it in 2006 was still in it’s memory. About 90% of the photos were of the inside of my pocket (i.e. completely black) due to craptacular user interface, but the rest give an odd snapshot of the year. The thing is, I don’t actually use my camera phone much. It’s pretty much only when I’m bored (evidence the photos of the cat, the train station, and the inside of the hospital) or when I need to document something. Anyway, for what it’s worth, I present 2006… as seen by my phone.

A slide show of the amazing Yale School of Architecture posters designed by Michael Bierut. I can’t wait to get the whole book.
Maybe it’s just an inside joke, but it seems like there’s some dissatisfaction within the SVA MFA design program.
I’ve never been so proud to call NJ my home. Of course it’s still a step behind full marriage, but the real solution is not to allow gay marriage, but to abolish straight marriage. Let “marriage” be a private institution for churches, community groups, and individuals, and let these groups set any rules they want. The government’s only job should be to certify civil unions for legal purposes, and any two consenting adults should be allowed to get “unionized.”
Noisy Decent Graphics is giving away a Flickr Pro account.
Adobe’s CSS Advisor (beta of course) seeks to provide a place where front-end developers can “find solutions to CSS and browser compatibility issues, share solutions and workarounds you’ve discovered with the community, and comment on and improve existing solutions.” But what’s with the damn URL?
